Good to Know

A wrist BP unit is useful for travel and when there might be difficulty in putting on an arm unit. Please note that wrist unit measurements generally DO NOT AGREE with an arm unit because they are taken at different places on the body. Physiological differences such as narrowing arteries and greater distance from the heart account for major variances. If you want to compare, establish an initial baseline between the two units and occasionally track to ensure that the difference remains relatively constant.

Please also remember that all devices have a variance. The accuracy on most units is + / - 3 % for blood pressure. So this means if the true Systolic blood pressure is 120 mm HG, the device might read as high as 124 or as low as 116 and still be accurate. Statistically on any individual reading, these are the same numbers.
It is recommended that you first seek the advice and recommendation of your physician or healthcare professional when using home diagnostic devices, including blood pressure monitors.
People with hypertension, arteriosclerosis or diabetes should consult their physician about monitoring blood pressure at the wrist. This device might not be as accurate as an arm unit for you.
Your readings should only be interpreted by your physician or healthcare professional with access to your individual medical history. Regular use of a home blood pressure monitor will allow you to track trends and record your readings for discussion with your physician.
